Thank you!
Nanivara: Gjoa Haven would not be possible without the support of many different people and organizations.
In Gjoa Haven, thank you to Joanni Sallerina, who acted as community coordinator for the project, and helped welcome and set-up the project from the beginning. A special thank you to Lena Arqviq, who served as interpreter for the program during the many interviews conducted with the Elders. Her help was invaluable to the project!
Thank you also to Jacob Keanik and the staff from the Nattilik Heritage Centre for their interest in the Nanivara Project, and for their commitment to ensuring the continued use of the materials gathered thus far.
Nanivara has also received support from the University of British Columbia, and First Air. In addition, we are grateful to the Nunavut Arctic College, and to Gordon Bligh and Robby Qammaniq for making the college available to the program during the summer. We are also grateful to Suzie Napayok-Short for her careful work interpreting and translating the interiews.
Major funds for the Nanivara Project are supplied by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, without whose support this program would not be possible.
Finally, to the Elders of Gjoa Haven who generously shared their homes and their knowledge with us, we offer our deepest gratitude. The stories we learned and collected are the lifeblood of the project, and we will to honour that contribution by making the stories available to all people in the community, so that the ways of the past will be continued into the future.
